Clay masks heal skin and remove excess oil, which makes it perfect for oily skin types, but they can be used for dry skin types as well (check out the Enhanced basic clay recipe). In that case we recommend adding oils to the routine after or during application. With this your skin will get detoxed and revitalized.
WHAT IS BENTONITE CLAY?
Its anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibacterial properties mean that clays have been in use for many centuries. Bentonite clay works in a way that it absorbs toxins, bacteria, dirt and excess oils. Using bentonite clay as mask is also known for its detoxifying properties.
The mask is usually mixed with water in a 1:1 ratio and applied for approximately 10 minutes. But this article will focus on recipes that enhance the basic recipe and spice up the mix a bit.
Fast tip on creating your own mix:
- It’s very important that you don’t use metal utensils or bowls when working with clay. The metal reacts to clay in a negative way. We highly recommend using infant feeding spoons, a brush or even wooden chopsticks for stirring.
GREEN CLAY MASK WITH ESSENTIAL OILS
Green clay is described as a gentle exfoliant and it has therapeutical properties. It has a smooth texture, which is preferred for facial application.
Ingredients:
- ½ tsp green clay
- ½ tsp kaolin clay
- 1 tbsp rose water or any citrus water
- 2 drops of Tea Tree essential oil
Mix both clays together and then add the hydrolats and the essential oils. The Tea Tree essential oil can be replaced by any other acne reducing essential oil like Frankincense Essential Oil, Rose Essential Oil, Neroli essential oil etc.
Pro tip when storing your facial mask:
- You can prepare a bigger batch and refrigerate the mixture. It will keep up for up to two weeks.
ENHANCED BASIC CLAY
This recipe is based on our Pink Rose clay that you can find at our online store. We chose the Pink clay as it can be used for dry or sensitive skin.
Ingredients:
- ½ tsp pink clay
- 1 tsp honey
- Jojoba oil for dry skin or water if you have oily skin
- Your favorite essential oil (optional)
Mix both the clay and the liquid and after that add the honey. It’s important to stir thoroughly. Now add your favorite essential oil and apply the mask. We recommend keeping on the mask for no more than 15 min or till it visibly dries. Remove the mask with water and washcloth.
Pro tip for mixing the mask:
If they clay is too dry, add more liquid and vice versa.
FACE MASK FOR CLEAN SKIN
This is a mask that we already created for you and is meant for all skin types - Mask of Ayurvedic herbs and clays. It cleanses the skin deeply, harmonizes and heals it. With regular use once a day, results are seen after the first week.
How does it work?
- Deep cleanses skin
- Harmonizes skin
- Reduces sebum production
- Heals pimples
Mix once a day approximately 1/3 to 1/2 of a teaspoon with just a bit of water (can be around 1/4 of a teaspoon) into a small cup. Stir in the smooth mud, which is circularly applied to the cleansed skin, behind the ears, neck, back - just wherever some imperfections bother you. Avoid contact with eyes. Allow the skin to dry for about ten minutes. Wash with lukewarm water and clean with skin tonic. After using the mask, we recommend nourishing the skin with one of our oil serums and finally applying a protective cream.
